FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: Since we don't use Canvas, where do I direct students for their quiz?
A: To access the quiz, all they need to do is scan the QR code on the time card, which will lead them to the page with the quiz link. Once they check the box on their time card confirming completion, they are good to go. If they skip the quiz or do not pass, I will notify you via email. Rather than tracking quizzes, we encourage you to invest your time in engaging with them about their internship experiences and providing guidance on how to successfully navigate the professional world.

Q: I see that I have new students in my internship class on PowerSchool. Have they completed the initial requirements and been place with an employer, or should I remove them from PowerSchool?
A: If a student appears on your PowerSchool, they should be all set. However, there are instances where counselors may add students who haven't completed the prerequisites. Please don't hesitate to contact us whenever an unexpected student appears, so we can resolve the issue promptly.

Q: What should I do with the timecards after they are turned in?
A: Scan the timecards to the work-based learning coordinator who will keep them on file for the required amount of time from the state.

Q: Do I give them their first timecard?
A: No, they will participate in Orientation at the district office during the first week of school. At Orientation, they will get their first timecard and send you an email to arrange their initial check-in. Once you receive their completed timecard, you will need to provide them with the next timecard and schedule the subsequent check-in.

Q: How many total hours is the internship?
A:  A minimum of 46 hours is required per semester.

Q: Can students be fired?
A: Yes. The expectations for our intern are aligned with those of a regular employee regarding company policies.

Q: How does the grading work for the internship?
A: Pass/Fail. Miss one assignment and the grade will go to an F.

Q: Are internships paid or unpaid?
A: Typically, internships are unpaid and designed for earning school credit while developing professional skills in their selected field. However, it can also be a paid opportunity, provided it corresponds with your CTE Pathway.

Q: Where can I find the state requirements for the CTE Internship Course?
 A: https://schools.utah.gov/cte/wbl/courses
We have broken down the timecards to cover both their hours worked and complete the rubric requirements
